From a very young age, Mateo showed a strong passion for sports, but it was baseball—deeply inspired by his father—that truly captured his heart. He began playing at just three years old in the T-Ball division of the Rademes López Little League in Guayama, where he proudly represented his hometown and became a Puerto Rico champion.
Mateo continued his development in the 5–6 and 7–8 age divisions with the Mets of Guayama, earning selection as an infielder in both categories. In the 9–10 division, he played with Padres Jr., where his team won the city championship and finished as state runner-up. This achievement allowed him to represent Puerto Rico in an invitational tournament in Panama, where he stood out both defensively and offensively.
Currently, Mateo competes as a third baseman in the 11–12 division with Ponce Glenview, carrying with him the same love, discipline, and pride for baseball that have defined his journey since childhood.
